Ken interviewed by Lee Majors (Lee Majors) Hi Ken. Let's get down to it. Which is your favorite? The Fall Guy, the 6 Million Dollar Man or Big Valley? (Ken Beasley) $6 mil man, no doubt. I like the little doors on his arm and leg where all the wires were. And the slow-motion jumping, of course. (LM) How long have you been playing music? (KB) Growing up, I played flute, tuba, and sang in an all male chorus. I began learning the guitar and writing seriously when I was about 14, but the guitar came a lot more naturally than the songs did. I didn't have any idea of how real songwriting worked till I was in my twenties. (LM) Which artists have influenced you the most in your music? (KB) Leo Kottke and Paco de Lucia top my list. They're amazing innovators on the guitar. I also love Willie, ABBA, the BeeGees, Stefan Grappeli, Parlaiment, Cotton Mather, Randy Newman, Bela Fleck, Gillian Welch, George Jones, Stevie Wonder, Leon Redbone, Beck, Wilco, Bjork, Tom Waits, the Beastie Boys, the Roches, Zepplin, Glenn Miller, Arrested Development, Spearhead, Marvin Gaye, Billy Bragg... should I go on? (LM) No. Um, how would you describe your music? (KB) I have no clue. Everyone always asks me that, and I have no answer. It's kinda Rootsy-Americana. But, by playing flamenco rhythms for so long, that style unconsciously comes out in my guitar playing. I don't know. Whatever it is, I really like filling it out with interesting beats and harmonies. (LM) Assuming that you were born at some point, where did it happen? (KB) El Paso, Texas. You know that pointy, western tip of Texas that's poking into New Mexico? That's El Paso. (LM) What are some of your other interests? (KB) I like physical things like hiking and kayaking. The two things that I'm mad for are Soccer and Capoeira (a Brazilian martial art). I also dig cooking and I have been getting really into building and modding my PC system. (turning geek is a scary thing) (LM) If I were to give you a pretty balloon right now, what color would you like it to be? (KB) Red (LM) If you had your choice between driving rusty nails through each of your finger tips or eating pumpkin pie, which would you choose? (KB) Rusty Nails (LM) Hmm. Interesting. Did you know that I was married to Farrah Fawcet? (KB) Of course. Who would have guessed that Ryan O'Neal would be the one getting the raw deal in that one? (LM) Thanks, man. So, how do you pass the time? (KB) I usually play the guitar constantly, but if I need a break, I love playing Chess & Scrabble. I'm big into books. I also watch: TechTV, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Iron Chef and the History Channel. (LM) Ok, Ken. Thanks for your time and I think I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we are anxiously awaiting the next move for my hairy-chested, up & down career. -End
* Lee Majors was busy with something, and never actually interviewed Ken. But, we think we got pretty darn close in our assumption of things he probably would have said.
